VAETC Session Scheduled for February 22

January 19, 2010

We are very happy to announce our next VAETC presentation “Finding Not Searching and Other Secrets from the Google Teacher Academy” to be presented by Wendy Steadman Stephens on February 22, 2010 at 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm.  This session is eligible for professional development credit for Alabama public school teachers for those attendees that (1) register through STI-PD for the session number VAETCFEB10, and (2)  type their STI-PD name and school district into the Elluminate chat box when prompted to do so during the session.  This authentication is necessary for us to  grant credit.

Description:

Everyone knows Google, the search engine so ubiquitous to have become a commonplace verb, but Google’s support for lesser-known, more precise search syntaxes brought gasps from tech savvy educators at the Google Teacher Academy. The presenter, a librarian and Google Certified Teacher, will model transformation of online searching into finding.

VAETC- Out of the Box: Using Moodle to Enrich Students’ Learning- Recording Link

October 29, 2009

We have posted credit for all those participants that followed our guidance of typing their STI-PD name and system into the live presentation when requested.

Here is the link to the recording made on 10/28/2009 with Amanda Patrick, Margaret Dumas and Mike Johnson from Baldwin County. The recording is clipped a little on the beginning as I didn’t get it started on time….sorry.

We have not posted the credit for those attending yet.  Make sure that you have registered in STI-PD if you wish to get credit.  VAETCOCT09 is STI number.

Notes:  Remember that we would like to do more virtual sessions aimed at teachers….actually teachers for teachers.  If you know of a topic or a topic and a presenter that would be good, please let me know.  Additionally, don’t forget that we are still planning for our regular AETC next summer (June 8-11, 2010).  Information on this conference is located on the following website:  https://ti.alsde.edu/aetc/.

Recorded Sessions of V-AETC (Updated)

June 10, 2009

We will be posting the recordings of sessions on the VAETC moodle site early during the week of June 15.  There may be cases where the quality was poor or no recording was made.  In either of these cases, you may not find a particular session. Check back to http://v-aetc.alsde.edu/ for the links.  Update!  All valid links have been posted.  These recordings will be available for two weeks.  We will be taking the site down on July 1 or somewhere close to that date.  Also, we will not be granting professional development credit for viewing these sessions.  Only live sessions where a viewer authenticated by typing in their names as instructed by the facilitators will qualify for professional development credit.  Additionally, viewers will need to have registered in STI-PD for the credit prior to June 16.

V-AETC Sessions Created in STI-PD- Now Available to Alabama Public Ed Employees

May 22, 2009

We are about 99% complete with sessions scheduled in STI-Pd.  Alabama Public Education employees may now register on STI-Pd for sessions.  The best way to access sessions of Virtual AETC is to go to PD Titles–>Search PD Title Catalog–> PD Title Number (In this field type VAETC09).  This will yield a list of all sessions currently available.  If other sessions are added, I will put a list of those in the blog.

A procedure for all others wishing to attend V-AETC is being developed and should be out in a couple of days.  This too will be updated as soon as it’s ready.

STI Professional Development Registration For VAETC

May 21, 2009

All sessions for Virtual AETC will be found in the STI-PD database.  This allows employees of Alabama Public Schools to register to get professional development credit for classes.  Employees may use their regular username and password for STI-PD to log  and then may search using the Course Number VAETC09xxx where xxx is the specific title that you’re interested in, or just search VAETC and you’ll see all the sessions for the conference.  Once registered, you should receive an email to the email address listed in your STI-PD account to direct you to the Moodle site where you will need to register in Moodle.    Here’s the message that you should receive:

“Congratulations!  You have successfully registered for a session in Virtual AETC.  First, copy down your STIPD session number/title.  Then, go to the following link and create a login to Moodle using your correct name (http://v-aetc.alsde.edu). If you are registering for more than one session, you will only need one login to Moodle.  Save your Moodle username and password and use them to access your sessions.  Once logged into Moodle, you may find technical requirements, help files, and session links listed within Moodle.  For help on registering in Moodle, download the following file: http://ti.alsde.edu/aetc/sitepages/documents/Enrollment%20Instructions%20for%20Moodle.doc  Please create your Moodle login as soon as you register so that you won’t be delayed getting into your sessions.”

Please follow the directions to get to the site and to find your sessions.

Proposal Form Technical Problem

May 12, 2009

If you made a proposal for a Hands-on Workshop or a Concurrent Session for Virtual AETC between April 13 and May 11, your proposal did not make it into our database.  We have now resolved this issue which was not apparent to either the the person making the proposal nor us since we didn’t know that your were submitting.  There seem to have been a conflict with some of the code on the site.

If you submitted during this time period, please return to the website (http://ti.alsde.edu/aetc) and resubmit your proposal.  We do appologize for the inconvenience.  I personally had to resubmit three sessions, so I understand the pain.  We do want your proposals, so please do this as soon as possible.
